Deluge
This was one of five paintings I completed specifically for an art show in
Manhattan. The show had a theme of "Text in Visual Art," so I approached
this theme by gathering photo references of anything in the world around
me that had text already on it. The title of each painting then became
something in reference to the text in the painting. This was from a photo
reference of the Times Square area, used with permission by Dave Baker.
Anyone who's ever been to Times Square can attest to the overwhelming
nature of the place: Neon and billboards and signs that cover entire
buildings; every square inch of the place is covered with some sort of ad
or information or graffiti. I titled the painting Deluge, referring to
this endless flood of words.
