Art Dolls (9)
Art Dolls are mixed media figurative sculptures intended as unique art objects rather than as toys for children. My art dolls contain no prefabricated doll parts such as heads or hands, instead I prefer to sculpt all parts of the figure myself. Art dolls call upon a wide range of skills, including sculpting, costume design, painting, and sewing. I think this is why I find the genre so fascinating; each figure is a process that brings many different technical elements together to tell a character's story. -
Sculpture (4)
Works in this gallery are pure-sculpts, or very nearly so. Most commonly I use polymer clay, epoxy clay, air-drying clay, or a combination of these. Some still qualify as art dolls while others explore different subjects. -
Felt (19)
My needle felted sculptures tend to be more whimsical than much of my other work. Needle felting is a method that involves shaping wool with a special barbed needle. Many of these works are collaborations created by myself and my partner, fellow artist Brian East. Our efforts in this medium entertain us both greatly. Unless otherwise specified, all works in this gallery are constructed from nothing more than dyed wool. -
Paintings (16)
In contrast to my fantasy-themed sculptures, my paintings are usually realistic. Oil paint is a classic medium and I enjoy working with it to simply portray the things I find in the world around me.
